One-day Institutional Visit of Hima Physics FMIPA UNY to the Sleman Geophysics Station

Hima Fisika FMIPA UNY again held a One-Day Institutional Visit (KISS) activity on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The KISS 2024 activity took place at the Sleman Geophysical Station and was attended by a number of students accompanied by Mrs. Dr. Febrina Siska Widyaningtyas, M.Pd as the supervising lecturer. The event began with an opening by the MC who guided the event with great enthusiasm. Then, it was continued with remarks from representatives of the Sleman Geophysical Station agency represented by the Head of the Station, as well as remarks from the supervising lecturer of Hima Fisika FMIPA UNY. After that, participants were given a presentation on the profile of the Sleman Geophysical Station. This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the role and function of the station in monitoring geophysical activity in the Yogyakarta area and its surroundings. The participants were very enthusiastic in participating in the first question and answer session.

The next agenda was the presentation of material on earthquakes and tsunamis. This material is very important, considering that Indonesia is a country that is prone to both natural disasters and is prone to environmental changes due to soil erosion and forest degradation. These environmental impacts threaten human life and biodiversity in Indonesia. Participants gained in-depth knowledge about the mechanisms of earthquakes and tsunamis, as well as mitigation efforts carried out by the Sleman Geophysical Station. The second Q&A session was also held with great enthusiasm, where participants actively asked various questions related to the material presented.

After the material and Q&A sessions were completed, the event continued with a tour of the tool park, where participants were invited to see firsthand the equipment used in geophysical observations. In addition, participants also toured the VII Regional Earthquake Center (PGR VII) to learn more about earthquake monitoring activities in the Yogyakarta area.
